Poetry

This page is my exploration into poetry. I don’t know that I would call myself a poet because it’s not the form my words usually take, and I’m not sure I’m all that good at putting a poem together. However, you know what they say about practice and perfection and all that. Let’s see if I can work on this skill.

Infinity

5/9/25

Infinity has claimed my mind,
Like the jumbled web of a barn spider
Spinning death in a stale corner

As sun illuminates blossoms that
Doddle down to the
outstretched arms of tender grass outside

Parallel roads twist and cross in a dizzying web
Which way is home?
That place where we have overcome it all.

It’s raining now, torrents so thick
that the road is barely visible,
Each swipe of the wipers washing away a lifetime

“I don’t care.”
Unfeeling echoes from the driver's seat
Another gossamer thread wrapping like a noose

The blinker clicks, eyes straight ahead
Your jaw cast in that hard, distant line.

Somehow, I’m standing on the road,
Water drenching to my soul
As I watch the darkness
swallow up your taillights.

I step back, tripping on the curb,
And I’m falling now, alongside a million other droplets
Until my back hits the grass and
I look up to pastel pieces of silk drifting down around me.

Your voice rights me
You’re sitting arm-in-arm with another.

The breeze carries your whisper to me
On a note of truth
“She can’t ever know.”

I close my eyes tight, a child afraid of the dark.

When I open them, I see myself being spun
Into a silken tomb, another tiny death
In this inner labyrinth

Fears

12/19/24

Dead-eyed phantoms
Murmur lies
Into my soul

Seducing me
Toward that chasm
In my chest
Where I fold into myself —

Into that dark pool of fear
Where my demons yet lurk.

Baba

12/12/24

In the beginning,
there was you —

And you became
The foundation that
Holds all that I am.

Storms are a given in Life
Some are small and drizzly,
Others batter and shake
Down to the bedrock

But despite it all,
You remain the container
That keeps me from
Crumbling.

Yours are the eyes
That see all of me.

Yours are the arms
Where safety lives.

Yours is the body
That has mapped mine.

Yours is the heart
That holds mine.

You are home.

Tethered

11/29/24

You are gravity
Pulling me toward you
Like a moth
Circles around flame

I can't explain
How something so tentative
Can have such a draw

I feel there is a tether
Between us stretched

Though perhaps
It runs only one way —
Just from me to you,

But whatever it is
It has me hooked,
Anchored to you –
A ship tied to a dock

A dog craving its bone
A woman in need of you.
